Counselling Care

The mission of Counselling Care is to increase the health, happiness and wellbeing of individuals, couples and families, including those with a child, children or adults with a disability. The counsellor, Maureen Jensen, has a Master’s Degree in Social Work and more than 25 years of experience in social services, including five years as a staff member at Autism Calgary. She is the mother of two teens – one was diagnosed with autism at age three and participated in Specialized Services, and the other has been diagnosed with learning disabilities. Maureen works out of a quiet, comfortable home office, with availability on evenings and weekends. She also offers counselling sessions via Skype. Because she is a Registered Health Provider, Maureen’s services may be covered by employer health benefits and may also be a tax deductible expense. Disability-related counselling can also be included in FSCD contracts, which may allow for full reimbursement of counselling costs.  (Patients with FSCD contracts are asked to bring their contracts with them to their first appointment.)

Sessions and Fees

Maureen’s current fees are $97.50 per hour, although she will adjust the fee based on the amount available to clients through their Family Supports for Children with Disabilities contract. Anyone with an FSCD contract may request 10 hours of disability-related counselling per year, and may request an additional 10 hours per year if required. (NOTE: Patients with FSCD contracts are asked to bring their contracts with them to their first appointment.) Maureen prefers not to extra-bill, and coverage for a Registered Social Worker is also available through most employer health benefits. Therapy provided by a Registered Social Worker is a deductible expense for tax purposes.

For tax purposes the therapy has to be prescribed and supervised:

  • for a mental impairment, by a medical doctor or a psychologist; or
