About

Counselling Care

The mission of Counselling Care is to increase the health, happiness and wellbeing of individuals, couples and families, including those with a child, children or adults with a disability. The counsellor, Maureen Jensen, has a Master’s Degree in Social Work and more than 25 years of experience in social services, including five years as a staff member at Autism Calgary. She is the mother of two teens – one was diagnosed with autism at age three and participated in Specialized Services, and the other has been diagnosed with learning disabilities. Maureen works out of a quiet, comfortable home office, with availability on evenings and weekends. She also offers counselling sessions via Skype. Because she is a Registered Health Provider, Maureen’s services may be covered by employer health benefits and may also be a tax deductible expense. Disability-related counselling can also be included in FSCD contracts, which may allow for full reimbursement of counselling costs.  (Patients with FSCD contracts are asked to bring their contracts with them to their first appointment.)

Practice

In her counselling practice, Maureen uses a wide variety of approaches, making sure to address the unique and pressing needs of each person. The basis of her approach is a client-centered approach that involves active listening and a positive regard for those who have reached out to address their issues. Her approach is collaborative: you will be encouraged to reflect on the issues you would like to address in your life and relationships, and you will work together to develop the strategies and techniques that will create the changes that you seek. When therapy is concluded, you will experience a greater sense of wellbeing, effectiveness and harmony within yourself and your relationships. This also frequently brings feeling of peace, personal empowerment and hopefulness.

Maureen brings a number of influences to her counselling, including various models of individual and relationship therapies, as well as an up-to-date understanding of brain development and attachment issues throughout the lifespan, and extensive experience in treating stress, grief, and loss issues related to disability.

Sessions and Fees

Maureen’s current fees are $97.50 per hour, although she will adjust the fee based on the amount available to clients through their Family Supports for Children with Disabilities contract. Anyone with an FSCD contract may request 10 hours of disability-related counselling per year, and may request an additional 10 hours per year if required. (NOTE: Patients with FSCD contracts are asked to bring their contracts with them to their first appointment.) For tax purposes the therapy has to be prescribed and supervised:
